Salmon Fishing in BC

We have five varieties of salmon in BC.  The Chinook salmon, also known as the Spring or King salmon is prized by gourmets.  BC's Chum salmon has a milder, more delicate flavour and is especially low in saturated fat.  The Coho salmon is full flavoured with fine textured red flesh.  The abundance of Coho in BC is on the increase since the rebuilding programs of the 1990's.  The Sockeye salmon accounts for about two thirds of BC's salmon harvest.  It is the mainstay of Commercial Salmon Fishing in BC.  The Pink salmon is the smallest of BC's salmon species.  Most commercially harvested Pink salmon ends up being canned with the remainder sold fresh or frozen in supermarkets, usually at attractive prices.
